Applied Kinesiology

Triad of Health

The primary chiropractic technique utilized at Halcyon Health Chiropractic is that of Applied Kinesiology (AK). AK is a system of analysis that uses muscle testing as a functional evaluation of the nervous system, allowing the practitioner to then skillfully determine the muscles, spinal levels, meridians, and potential organ systems that are unbalanced. AK doctors focus on the “triad of health” addressing structural, chemical and mental aspects to your condition.

Dr. Matusiak is certified in Professional Applied Kinesiology (PAK).  This distinction within AK sets her apart as she has demonstrated exceptional knowledge, by passing both board exams of certification and proficiency.  Dr. Matusiak uses AK to uncover hidden weaknesses in your body, in order to determine and correct potential blockages to achieving optimal health often before they are evident through traditional diagnostic methods. This system of analysis and therapy integrates elements of many other medical disciplines allowing a deeper understanding and customized treatment for YOUR unique neurology, physiology, and bio mechanics.

The triad of health illustrates three basic causes of health problems: structural, chemical, and mental. Literally, all health problems, whether functional or pathological, are involved with one or all parts of the triad. The founder of Chiropractic medicine, D.D. Palmer, states in his text, The Science, Art, and Philosophy of Chiropractic, “The determining causes of disease are traumatism, poison and autosuggestion.” AK enables the doctor to evaluate the triad’s functional balance and direct therapy toward the imbalanced side or sides.

Dr. Matusiak explains the triad of health:

“Something as ‘simple’ as low back pain can have several different causes:

Direct trauma, such as falling down a flight of stairs can injure muscles and causes specific misalignments of the spine!
Dehydration,  food sensitivities or nutritional deficiencies  can inhibit primary low back stabilizers causing compensatory patterns of pain and spasm!
Fear, hate, dread and other emotions experienced daily by for example, being at a job that doesn’t fulfill your passion or provide enjoyment, can create imbalances in the body manifesting as pain and postural distortions!

This is why I use AK in my practice.  Your pain or problem is unique to you, and we will find and correct the root cause together.”

-Excerpt from the International College of Applied Kinesiology website:

“PAK skills are developed and approved by the International College of Applied Kinesiology Board of Standards.  These skills are refined from many disciplines including Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Medicine, Dentistry, Acupuncture, Biochemistry, Psychology, Homeopathy, and Naturopathy etc.  Members of these professions share knowledge through the publications and conferences of the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK).

“AK, is a non-invasive system of evaluating body function that is unique in the healing arts, and has become a dynamic movement in health care in its relatively short existence.  A Doctor using AK during an examination will add a new dimension to standard diagnostics. Treatments may involve specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical nutrition, dietary management, counseling skills, evaluating environmental irritants and various reflex procedures.”
